For fraudulently obtaining money and engaging in ‘marathon sex’ with a Lagos-based single lady, Ginikachi Adika, a jobless Nigerian, 35-year-old Amaechi Odife, has been arraigned before an Oshodi Magistrate Court, Lagos.
The accused, unknown to the lady, was deported from the…
United States of America some months back. When they met themselves, he promised Ms Ginikachi that he would marry her and take her along with him to the US, but on one condition: they will be sleeping together for the time being.
Probably out of her ‘desperation’ to settle down with a man and even travel abroad, she consented and the guy started living with her at her apartment located at 7, Amusa Street, Mafoluku, Oshodi – Lagos.
Living on false hope, Ms Ginikachi gladly accepted Amaechi’s promises and started spending her money on him and even gave him ‘the other thing’ whenever he wanted it. But she became anxious after he refused to introduce her to his relations for them to begin wedding arrangements.
It was however after five months of feeding him ‘in and out’ that she discovered that Amaechi was actually deported back to Nigeria and was a jobless man without any hope of going back to the US. Angered by her findings, Ms Ginikachi reported the accused’s action to the police at Makinde Police station.
Men of the Makinde Police station promptly arrested Amaechi and charged him to court under sections 419 and 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap.17, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria.
But the matter has suffered two adjournments because the complainant, Ms Ginikachi, maybe because of shame, has been finding it difficult to appear in court and testify against the accused. In the last sitting, the presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Osho Adebiyi, thus granted Amaechi bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety.
He will however remain in the Kirikiri prison until the conditions of his bail are perfected.
