Rapper Nicki Minaj is now the most followed hip-hop artist on Twitter, Minaj has about 8,194,350 followers, breaking a previous record held by Eminem. Em sits at number two now, with 8,177,381 followers.

The news comes on the heels of a banner year for Minaj, who went from being 2010′s most talked-about newcomer, to a bonafide pop culture figure in 2011.

And she’s proven that she understands the power of Twitter as a platform. Nicki engaged her fans, engaged in a ‘beef’ with Cher and even ‘married’ her labelmate Drake–all via the popular social networking site.
